1. Certain phrases by Chat GPT can reveal a non-human origin

Okay, so basically, researchers are trying to figure out how to tell if something was written by a machine or a human. They found out that one clue is when the text doesn’t use idioms, which are like expressions with special meanings.

In 2022, a research paper called “Adversarial Robustness of Neural-Statistical Features in Detection of Generative Transformers” talked about this. It said that the way machines use phrases can give them away as not being human.

They found that idioms are especially important because they show up a lot in human language. So, if something doesn’t have any idioms, it might be a machine trying to sound like a human.

That’s one reason why sometimes when you talk to ChatGPT, it might sound a little weird or fake – it’s because it can’t use idioms very well.

2. There is a lack of the ability to express in Chat GPT

An artist said something interesting about ChatGPT. They think that even though it can make sentences as an artist does, it’s missing something important.

That missing thing is an expression – which means putting your thoughts and feelings into what you create. ChatGPT can’t really do that because it’s just spitting out words without any actual emotions behind them.

Basically, it can’t make people feel the way a real artist can because it’s not a real person with real thoughts and feelings.

3. ChatGPT may generate false information (hallucinations) at times.

Yes, there’s a research paper called “How Close is ChatGPT to Human Experts?” and it says that ChatGPT has a habit of lying sometimes.

Basically, if you ask it a question that needs a professional answer, it might make up fake facts just to give you an answer. For example, if you ask it a legal question, it might pretend there’s a law that doesn’t even exist.

And if you ask a question that doesn’t have a real answer yet, ChatGPT might just straight up make something up to try and give you an answer.

The website Futurism talked about how this has happened before with machine-generated articles on CNET. Apparently, OpenAI even warned people that ChatGPT can give answers that sound right but are actually totally wrong.

CNET said they checked the articles with humans before publishing them, but who knows if that’s always going to work.

4. ChatGPT uses too many words.

In January 2023, a research paper titled “How Close is ChatGPT to Human Experts? Comparison Corpus, Evaluation, and Detection” was published. The paper uncovered certain patterns in ChatGPT’s content that render it less appropriate for critical applications.

According to the research, in over 50% of finance and psychology-related questions, humans favored the answers given by ChatGPT.

However, when it came to medical questions, ChatGPT’s responses were not preferred by humans, as they preferred direct answers, which the AI failed to provide.

Here is what the researchers wrote:

“…ChatGPT performs poorly in terms of helpfulness for the medical domain in both English and Chinese. The ChatGPT often gives lengthy answers to medical consulting in our collected dataset, while human experts may directly give straightforward answers or suggestions, which may partly explain why volunteers consider human answers to be more helpful in the medical domain.”

ChatGPT is known for its ability to explore a topic from multiple angles, which can sometimes make it less effective when a direct answer is required. This is an important consideration for marketers using ChatGPT, as visitors seeking a clear and concise answer may not be satisfied with a lengthy response.

Moreover, creating a webpage that is overly wordy may hinder its chances of ranking in Google’s featured snippets.

This is where a brief, well-articulated answer that can be easily processed by Google Voice may have a greater chance of being ranked than a lengthy one.

OpenAI, the developers behind ChatGPT, have acknowledged that providing verbose responses is a limitation of the system. Therefore, it’s important for users to understand when and how to use ChatGPT effectively.

5. ChatGPT’s Comprehensive Approach May Not Be Ideal for Every Use Case

ChatGPT was trained using a reward system that favored responses that satisfied human raters. The raters tended to favor answers that were more detailed and comprehensive. 

However, in certain contexts such as medical applications, a direct answer may be more suitable than a comprehensive one.

As a result, it’s important to prompt ChatGPT to provide more direct answers when necessary, and to be aware of when a more comprehensive response may not be ideal. 

By understanding how to effectively use ChatGPT in various contexts, users can maximize its potential and ensure the most accurate and relevant responses.

6. ChatGPT is considered unnatural because it lacks divergence.

In the research article titled “Assessing ChatGPT’s Proximity to Human Experts,” the authors pointed out an intriguing observation regarding human communication. 

They noted that it can often contain indirect meaning, which may require a shift in conversation or perspective to comprehend fully.

However, this is where ChatGPT’s limitations become apparent. Due to its literal approach to language processing, there are instances where its responses can be slightly off-target. 

This is because the AI may overlook crucial contextual clues, leading to a lack of accuracy in its answers.

Undesired qualities of ChatGPT

There are several issues with ChatGPT that render it unsuitable for unsupervised content generation. The tool is plagued by biases and lacks the ability to create content that feels organic and insightful. Also, its inability to generate unique ideas makes it a subpar option for creating artistic expressions.

To generate higher-quality content, users must provide detailed prompts that guide ChatGPT’s output. However, even with a detailed prompt, machine-generated content may still contain errors or inaccuracies that are difficult to detect.

This highlights the importance of having human experts review machine-generated content. It’s important however to note that ChatGPT is designed to appear correct, even when it’s not, making it essential to have reviewers who are knowledgeable in the specific topic being addressed.
